Why use PTFE Hoses?

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is an engineered fluoropolymer, and has numerous applications. It is a thermoplastic polymer and has exceptional resistance to a wide variety of chemicals. PTFE Hose has increased resistance to vibration and flexing, and is a considerable saving in replacement cost, when used to replace other material hoses.
Unlike other non PTFE Hose, PTFE Hose will not impart taste, or odour or contaminate the inner media.
A PTFE hose assembly is composed of the inner PTFE tubing element, with outer braid/s and end hose connectors. Few advantages of flexible PTFE hoses :

  • Extremely low coefficient of friction (0.05 to 0.20) provides a non-stick surface.
  • Water absorption of PTFE is negligible, less than 0.01% by ASTM test.
  • PTFE is chemically inert. PTFE is FDA-approved for food and pharmaceutical use.
  • Suitable for wide temperature ranges from - 70 ℃ to 260 ℃.
  • PTFE will not deteriorate and has excellent shelf life, practically unlimited.
  • Suitable for absorbing minor vibrations and flexing.

Smooth Bore PTFE Hose

Stainless Steel Braided PTFE Smooth bore hoses

Ocelflex industries' PTFE Hose are designed to ensure minimum porosity and maximum flexibility. These non metallic hoses are available in long lengths. Plain PTFE is excellent for applications in which minimum flexing or movement is required.

Why use Smooth Bore PTFE Hoses?

Apart from the general advantages of PTFE, smooth bore PTFE hoses offer additional advantages such as :

  • Easy cleanability avoids bacterial growth in Food & Beverages industrial applications.
  • Cheaper compared to its convoluted hoses.
  • Tufted or Flared Smooth bore end fittings offer additional single piece PTFE lining, resulting in no-contact with any metal surface.

Smooth Bore PTFE Hose offers maximum flow, along with average flexibility. It is plain and smooth from inside and outside, without convolutions. So it can be easily cleaned from inside.

Heavy gauge hard Stainless Steel 304 wire is used for external braiding, which provides increased pressure rating and external resistance of the hose from corrosive chemicals.

Dimensions

Inner Diameter ranges from 1/4 inch to 1 1/2 inch.
Lengths are manufactured upto 50 meters, depending upon the diameter.

Temperature

Suitable for minimum temperature of - 60 ℃ and maximum temperature of upto 260 ℃.

Working Pressure

Depending upon the diameter, PTFE Smooth bore hoses can withstand upto 40 bar.

Material

Inner PTFE Tube is manufactured using PTFE Virgin granules.
Outer Wire Braid is manufactured in Stainless Steel 304, Stainless Steel 304L, Stainless Steel 316.

    Electrically Conductive PTFE Smooth Bore Hose

Electrostatic charges / discharges are often caused due to limiting flow velocities and relative nominal bore size. Additionally. electrostatic charge can accumulate when two different materials are brought together and then seperated, wherein one of the materials acquires electrons from the other material and becomes charged.
Ocelflex manufactures PTFE Hoses with static dissipating liners. This is achieved by combining PTFE or PFA fluoropolymers with a small amount of carbon filler when manufacturing the PTFE flexible tube.

  •   Series - OC300M & OC300H

    High Pressure PTFE Smooth Bore Hose

For extremely high pressure resistance, we offer PTFE hoses reinforced with an outer spring and two stainless steel wire braid covers. Ocelflex's Double braided PTFE Hose is machine braided using high tensile thin wire, making the hose resistant to high pressure.

For applications where the environment is highly corrosive, polypropylene braid assists in a low electrically conductive assembly.

Convoluted PTFE Hose

Stainless Steel Braided Convoluted PTFE Hose

Stainless Steel braided PTFE Convoluted hose consists of an inner sprial convoluted tube and an outer reinforced braid.

Outer Reinforced Braid

The outer braid is composed of thin multiple stainless steel wire. Ocelflex' corrugated stainless steel wire braid advantages :

  • PTFE hoses are available with Stainless Steel 300 Series Braid for usage in high temperature applications.
  • Depending upon the pressure parameter in the application, the PTFE hose is designed using either single braid or double braid or multiple braids.
  • Ocelflex manufactures wide range of braid constructions including 24, 36, 48 and 96 carriers. Bright annealed and high tensile wires are used for the production of metal braids.

Inner Convoluted Tube

The inner PTFE tube is convoluted using a forming die, and then heated to bond the layers. The convolutions are helically formed to provide maximum flexibility even for smaller lengths. Ocelflex' convoluted PTFE hose design advantage :

  • Ocelflex's uniquely designed Convoluted PTFE hoses provide greater flexibility even for hoses with larger inner diameter, or smaller lengths, without compromising on other technical specifications.
  • Our PTFE Convoluted hoses have convolutions spread at a greater angle so as to provide better cleanability and drain-ability as compared to other convoluted hoses available in the market.
  • Tufted or Flared Convoluted bore end fittings offer additional single piece PTFE lining, resulting in no-contact with any metal surface.

As the inner diameter of Smooth Bore PTFE Hoses increase, the flexibility reduces. For particular smaller lengths the flexibility for larger sizes is very less. So for larger diameters, plain PTFE hose provides minimum flexibility, and behaves as a rigid pipe. In order to increase the flexibility, Convoluted PTFE hoses are preferred.

The hose has excellent temperature characteristics, chemical resistance, low coefficient of friction, resists deterioration and has mild pressure ratings.

Inner Diameter ranges from 3/8 inch to 6 inch.
Lengths are manufactured upto 50 meters, depending upon the diameter.

Temperature

Suitable for minimum temperature of - 60 ℃ and maximum temperature of upto 260 ℃.

Working Pressure

Depending upon the diameter, PTFE Hoses can withstand upto 600 bar.

Material

Inner PTFE Tube is manufactured using PTFE Virgin granules.

    Vacuum PTFE Convoluted Hose

PTFE Hose is relatively thin walled and under vacuum conditions its wall can collapse. Additonally, at elevated temperatures the hose is more prone to collapse in vacuum conditions. In order to avoid this, an external or internal reinforcement in addition to the the wire braid is attached. For applications involving vacuum conditions it is important to not exceed the temperature as well as the static bend radius of the given hose.

Heavy Walled PTFE Lined Hose

Stainless Steel Braided PTFE Smooth bore heavy duty hose with reinforcement

Thick walled PTFE Lining makes the hose rigid, allowing minimal thermal expansion contraction, but not much flexibility. The thickness will depend upon the applications, but more commonly the thickness of the inner lining will range from 3mm to 8mm. The plain inner surface provides better cleanability and drain-ability, at the same time adequate outer PTFE Hose protects the assembly against external corrosive environments.

Heavy walled PTFE Hose is 100% leak tested and a cost effective solution for a wide range of applications.

Thick walled PTFE tube is lined inside a Stainless Steel Braided PTFE Hose. Used in application which have higher pressure rating and corrosive environments.
The PTFE liner is extruded within the PTFE Hose and flared or tufted, as a result of which the inner media does not come in contact with any metal surface. Outer thick walled stainless steel braided protection makes it ideal for applications in which the external environment may be corrosive. Approved for food, chemical, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications.

Inner Diameter ranges from 1 inch to 8 inch.
Lengths are manufactured upto 5 meters, depending upon the diameter.

Flared / Tufted PTFE End Fittings

PTFE Flared / Lined Flexible Hoses are used in applications which require full contact of the inner media with PTFE throughout the hose, in order to avoid contact of the inner media with metal fittings. Manufacturing this is a very unique procedure, wherein the inner PTFE tube is extended outside the hose and spread over the fitting, by a special procedure, known as flaring.
Advantages over standard crimped fittings :

Eliminates bacterial traps during usage

Flared or Tufted PTFE Hoses are constructed by extruding the inner tuber on the outside and then flared. As there are no joints, bacterial accumulation is competely eliminated.

Maximizes flow benefits

The inner diameter of the PTFE hose will be equivalent to the actual inner diameter throughout the length of the hose, ensuring maximum flow benefits.

Ensures leak free hose assemblies

As the inner tube is flared on the outside, the hose remains in a single piece throughout. As there is no requirement for internal crimping, this hose assembly eliminates any chances of leakage.
