testing.

Each stainless steel corrugated hose, expansion joint, metal bellow, and non-metallic hose undergoes comprehensive Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), including leak testing, hydrostatic and pneumatic inspections, followed by final re-verification before dispatch.

Upon request or if the standard and application demands we also conduct various other product tests as per international standards such as Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT), Visual Testing (VT), Radiography Testing, Ultrasonic Testing, and Positive Material Identification (PMI), along with Destructive Testing such as Life Cycle Testing, Hose Bending Tests, and Burst Pressure Tests to ensure complete validation of product integrity.

pneumatic testing.

Pneumatic testing is carried out on metal expansion joints, flexible metal hose assemblies, PTFE Hoses and stainless steel corrugated hose assemblies to evaluate their ability to hold pressure and detect minute leaks. Unlike hydrostatic testing, which uses water as the medium, pneumatic testing employs compressed air or nitrogen to pressurize the component. This method offers higher sensitivity in detecting fine leaks, especially in applications where even minimal leakage could affect performance or safety.

Because compressed gases store considerable energy, our procedure follows strict safety measures as outlined in ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3. Each test setup is enclosed and monitored for pressure stability and deformation. The product is gradually brought up to its designated test pressure, held for inspection, and then carefully depressurized. Engineers observe any pressure drop, noise, or visual signs of leakage.

helium testing.

Helium leak testing represents the most precise and sensitive method available for ensuring the gas-tight integrity of metal expansion joints and stainless steel corrugated hoses. Helium, due to its extremely small molecular size, can penetrate even the tiniest imperfections, making it ideal for detecting micro-leaks that conventional hydrostatic or pneumatic tests might overlook.

Following ASME Section V, Article 10 guidelines, each test is executed under controlled environmental conditions to eliminate background noise and ensure accurate readings. The results not only confirm the quality of welding and assembly but also validate long-term reliability.

Hydrostatic testing is one of the most widely accepted and dependable methods for verifying the pressure resistance and leak tightness of stainless steel corrugated hoses, flexible metal hose assemblies, PTFE Hoses, Composite Hoses, and metal expansion joints and expansion bellows. During this test, the component is completely filled with clean water and subjected to a pressure 1.5 times its design pressure, as specified by ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and EJMA standards. The objective is to confirm that the assembly can safely withstand pressures beyond its normal operating limits without any permanent deformation or leakage.

At Ocelflex, each hose or expansion joint is hydrostatically tested under precisely controlled conditions using calibrated instruments. The product is held under pressure for a defined duration, allowing us to assess its mechanical strength, weld integrity, and sealing efficiency. This test replicates real-world operating stress, ensuring that every assembly meets its rated pressure requirements with complete reliability. The test results are documented and form a critical part of Ocelflex’s QA traceability system, providing full assurance of product performance before dispatch.

life cycle testing.

Life Cycle Testing evaluates the fatigue life and operational durability of metal expansion joints and stainless steel corrugated hoses by replicating real-world pressure and movement cycles. At Ocelflex, the life cycle or fatigue test is conducted in accordance with EJMA standards for expansion joints and ISO 10380:2012 (E) for metal hoses, this test determines how the product performs over extended service durations.

The component is subjected to thousands of controlled cycles involving flexing, pressurization, and axial or lateral movement to simulate operational stresses. We record performance data such as pressure retention, movement stability, and material fatigue.

The data generated forms a key part of our design validation and product improvement program, guaranteeing long-term reliability for critical service applications.

vacuum testing.

Vacuum testing is performed to verify that a flexible metal hose assembly or stainless steel corrugated hose can maintain performance under negative pressure conditions without deformation or collapse. This test ensures the structural integrity of the hose’s corrugated profile, braid reinforcement, and weld joints.

Ocelflex’ vacuum testing is performed in accordance with ASME Code Section V (leak testing under vacuum). The hose assembly is placed in a controlled vacuum environment where the internal pressure is reduced to a specified level. The system is monitored for pressure stability and any visible deformation over a set duration. This testing method is especially critical for suction or vacuum lines, chemical transfer systems, and applications where the hose must withstand backflow or reverse pressure.

radiographic testing.

Radiographic Testing (RT) is a fundamental non-destructive examination method used to assess the weld quality of metal expansion joints and flexible metal hoses. By using X-rays,, this test can detect internal discontinuities such as porosity, slag inclusions, cracks, or incomplete fusion, which might otherwise compromise weld integrity.

At Ocelflex, radiographic inspections conform to ASTM E164, ASTM E273, and ASME Section VIII, Division 1. The process involves capturing radiographic images of the weld joints on film or digital detectors, followed by expert evaluation against acceptance criteria defined in international codes.

This inspection is especially crucial for large expansion joints intended for high-pressure or high-temperature service, where weld reliability directly impacts operational safety.

dye penetrant inspection / testing.

Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT), also known as Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI), is a vital non-destructive examination used for metal expansion joints, stainless steel corrugated hoses, and flexible metal hose assemblies to identify surface-breaking flaws that may not be visible to the naked eye. At Ocelflex, our DPT test follows ASTM E165 (SE-165) and ASTM E1417 standards for reliability in results.

In this procedure, a visible or fluorescent dye is applied to thoroughly cleaned metal surfaces, allowing it to seep into surface discontinuities such as cracks, porosity, or incomplete fusion. After an appropriate dwell time, the excess dye is removed, and a developer is applied. The developer draws out the penetrant trapped within flaws, making defects clearly visible under normal or ultraviolet light.

hose bend radius test.

The Hose Bend Radius Test determines the minimum radius at which a stainless steel corrugated hose or flexible metal hose can safely bend without kinking, collapsing, or reducing its pressure-carrying capacity. Conducted in accordance with ISO 10380:2012 (E), this test validates the flexibility and endurance of the hose under repeated motion or tight installation conditions.

During testing, the hose is subjected to controlled bending cycles while maintaining internal pressure, simulating real operational stresses. Measurements are taken to detect any deformation, leakage, or braid loosening. The test ensures that the hose can operate effectively within its specified bend radius while maintaining flow and mechanical strength.

material PMI testing.

Positive Material Identification (PMI) testing is a vital step in verifying the authenticity of materials used in metal hoses and expansion joint fittings. It ensures that every component conforms to the specified alloy grade—such as SS304, SS316, or Inconel—providing assurance of quality, strength, and corrosion resistance.
