Why use a Rubber Expansion Joint?

A rubber expansion joint is a flexible connector which absorbs movements such as vibrations, thermal expansion and contraction, noise, shock. Features and benefits of using a rubber expansion joint for your application :

  • Movement Absorbtion : Rubber Expansion Joint are designed with spherical connectors ( arch like ) are available in either single arch and double arch to absorb greater pipe motions. Spool type expansion joints can be built with multiple arches to take up greater movements.
  • Noise Reduction : To dampen noise transmission in pipe line systems caused due to wear and tear of support systems, a thick walled rubber expansion joint can be installed
  • Abrasion and corrosion resistance : The carcass of the rubber joint is abour 10 to 25 mm thick. This layer is composed of synthetic or natural eleastomers and fabric to resist against oils, chemicals, sunlight, fumes, ozone and a wide range of corrosive media.
  • Vibration dampening : Rubber expansion joints dampen unbalance disturbances in fluid systems and provide resistance against shock stress from hydraulic surge and water hammer.
  • Easy Installation : Compared to Metal Expansion Joints, Rubber Expansion Joints are light weight making it easy to install in pipe systems. Additionally a rubber lining is present in the form of gasket, which eliminates the need of gasket maintainance.

Rubber joints can absorb greater movements when compared to similar length metal expansion joints.

Single Wide Arch Design

Our Rubber Expansion Joint conform to ASTM F 1123-87. A Single Arch Rubber Expansion Joints has four layers :

  • Cover : An external layer of synthetic or natural rubber protects the inner body of the expansion joint.
  • Carcass : The body of the expansion joint consisting of reinforcement and natural or synthetic elastomers.
  • Reinforcement : Composed of synthetic or natural fabric thread or wire to strengthen the expansion joint to withstand movement and pressure.
  • Inner Tube : Inner protective lining that extends to the outer flanges allows a leak proof connection so that the inner media cannot penetrate into the inner carcass.

Rubber expansion joint with a single arch design are suitable for absorbing movements for smaller lengths. The bellows are moulded under high pressure and reinforced with nylon thread. Ocelflex manufactures rubber expansion joints built to withstand even the most rigorous piping system configurations.

Dimensions

Inner Diameter ranges from 1 inch to 12 inch.
Lengths are manufactured upto 250 mm, depending upon the diameter.

Temperature

Suitable for maximum temperature of upto 115 ℃.

Working Pressure

Depending upon the diameter, our standard rubber joints can withstand upto 10 bar.

Double Wide Arch Design

Our Rubber Expansion Joint conform to ASTM F 1123-87. Like a Single Arch design, a Double Arch Rubber Expansion Joints has four layers :

  • Carcass : The body of the expansion joint consisting of reinforcement and natural or synthetic elastomers.
  • Reinforcement : Composed of synthetic or natural fabric thread or wire to strengthen the expansion joint to withstand movement and pressure.
  • Inner Tube : Inner protective lining that extends to the outer flanges allows a leak proof connection so that the inner media cannot penetrate into the inner carcass.

Rubber expansion joint with a double arch design are suitable for absorbing movements for longer lengths. The bellows are moulded under high pressure and reinforced with nylon thread. Double Arch Rubber Expansion Joint is allows for greater axial compression or axial extension, and lateral deflection as well as angular movement.

Dimensions

Inner Diameter ranges from 1 1/2" inch to 22 inch.
Lengths are manufactured upto 350 mm, depending upon the diameter.

Temperature

Suitable for maximum temperature of upto 115 ℃.

Working Pressure

Depending upon the diameter, our standard rubber joints can withstand upto 10 bar.
