CRITICAL FUEL TRANSFER SOLUTIONS FOR BAHRAIN'S MAJOR PETROLEUM COMPANY
HEAVY-DUTY COMPOSITE HOSES FOR REFINERY AND EXPORT TERMINAL OPERATIONS

Composite Hose Installation for Fuel Transfer Operations

CLIENT REQUIREMENT

We recently supplied Composite Hoses to one of Bahrain's major petroleum companies for intensive fuel transfer duties at their refinery and export terminal facilities. This new expansion project covered multiple operational areas where safety, durability, and handling efficiency were critical.

The hoses were intended for use across tank truck and rail car loading racks, marine jetty export connection points, and temporary jumper manifold systems installed during refinery expansion and maintenance activities. These locations experience continuous, high-frequency loading cycles, meaning the assemblies needed to withstand repeated connection and disconnection without compromising performance.

Since nearly 90% of the refined product is dispatched through terminal loading, the client emphasized the need for Multiple Fuel compatible Composite Hoses that remain flexible and easy to handle even after prolonged field use.

The conveyed media included a range of refined petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, and aviation fuels (kerosene/jet fuel). Given the flammable nature of these fluids, electrical continuity was a major design factor for equipment installed in hazardous zones.

OPERATIONAL CHALLENGES

High-Frequency Loading Cycles

Continuous connection and disconnection at loading racks and marine jetties

Multiple Fuel Compatibility

Handling gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, and aviation fuels with varying additives

Static Electricity Hazard

Full electrical continuity required to prevent static charge accumulation in hazardous zones

Dual Pressure & Vacuum Service

Operation under medium pressure (below 15 bar) and vacuum conditions during suction

Harsh Outdoor Environment

Exposure to weathering, UV radiation, ozone, and abrasion in terminal service

Maintained Flexibility

Easy handling and resistance to kinking despite prolonged field use

CLIENT EXPECTATION

The client required heavy-duty composite hoses that could handle multiple refined petroleum products while ensuring absolute safety through full electrical continuity. The hoses needed to maintain flexibility for easy handling, withstand high-frequency connection cycles, and perform reliably under both pressure and vacuum conditions in demanding outdoor terminal environments.

HOSE MANUFACTURED BY OCELFLEX

To meet these demanding conditions, Ocelflex supplied its heavy-duty Dock Fuel Composite Hoses from our specialized range of Multi Fuel Composite Hoses engineered for suction and discharge of hydrocarbon products.

As an experienced Composite Hose manufacturer in Bahrain, we designed the hose construction with a galvanized mild steel internal and external helix wire, providing both structural strength and a reliable conductive path.
The hose wall consisted of multiple layers of proprietary polypropylene films and reinforcing fabrics selected specifically for compatibility with petrochemical products, including aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons as well as modern fuel additives.
The outer cover was made from a high-quality PVC-coated fabric offering strong resistance to weathering, UV exposure, ozone, and abrasion — essential for long-term outdoor terminal service.
From a safety standpoint, the metallic inner and outer helix wires were electrically bonded to the end fittings, ensuring continuous conductivity from one end of the assembly to the other. Each hose achieved an electrical resistance of 10 ohms or less between end connections.
Mechanically, the hose was built to maintain flexibility while resisting kinking, crushing, and collapse under vacuum.
The assemblies were rated for continuous service temperatures from –30°C to +80°C, with working pressures up to 14 bar and allowable peaks up to 16 bar. Vacuum capability extended up to 0.9 bar.
To support frequent handling, we supplied the assemblies with Camlock couplings, enabling quick, secure, and repeatable connections during daily loading cycles.
TESTING AND COMPLIANCE

Each hose assembly delivered to this Bahrain's petroleum company was individually tested and certified. Documentation included hydrostatic pressure test certificates, electrical continuity test reports, and certificates of conformity.

All hoses confirmed compliance with EN 13765:2018 Type 3 — the international standard covering thermoplastic multi-layer Composite Hoses for petroleum and hydrocarbon service, fully satisfying hazardous area requirements.

Ocelflex's heavy-duty Dock Fuel Composite Hoses have proven to be the ideal solution for the demanding requirements of high-cycle fuel transfer operations. The combination of multi-fuel compatibility, guaranteed electrical continuity, and robust construction has provided the client with a reliable, safe, and efficient transfer system for their critical terminal loading operations.

The successful implementation in Bahrain's major petroleum facilities demonstrates Ocelflex's capability to deliver specialized composite hose solutions that meet the highest standards of safety and performance in the hydrocarbon industry.
